Biology Department Faculty of Sciences Brawijaya University organized The 8th Basic Science International Conference (BaSIC) 2018. The two day (06-07/Mar/2018) was followed by 450 participants.

The event conducted at Ijen Suites Hotel Resort and Convention was opened directly by Dean of Faculty of Sciences Drs. Adi Susilo, M.Si., PhD and inviting some speakers either abroad or domestic.

The speakers were such as Prof. Mikio Nishizawa, M.D., Ph.D from Ritsumeikan University (Japan), Prof. James R. Ketudat-Cairns, Ph.D from Suranaree University of Technology (Thailand), Prof. Senthil Natesan, Ph.D from Center of Innovation, Agricultural College and Research Institute, Madurai, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (India), Prof. Kostas Konstantinou from National Central University (Taiwan) and Setia Pramana, PhD from Polytechnic of Statistics Science (Indonesia).

Met by PRASETYA, BaSIC 2018 Chairman Yoga D. Jatmiko, S.Si., M.App.Sc, PhD explained that BaSIC is an annual activity at Faculty of Sciences held in turn by each department at the faculty. This year, its organizer is Biology Department and raising a theme "Convergence of Basic Science, Towards the World Sustainability Challenges". It means that Basic Science is a fundamental science which will give impkication towards applied science. So there is a collaboration of basic science, so it creates a new sign for instance recently there are geo-informatics, statistics, social engineering and so on," Yoga explained.

Added by Yoga, the event is expected to be able to generate trans-discipline collaboration and partnership from basic science aspect including biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics to accomplish global issue such as sustainable development. [ronny/Humas UB/trans. Denok]
