Sociopreneur as the Solution of Social Problems

Social entrepreneur has the potential to deliver some solutions related to social problems namely implementation the approach of entrepreneurship and social innovation power to deal with the existing social challenges. This is delivered by Professional Doctorate in Business Administration, University of Canberra Cacik Rut Damayanti, S.Sos., M.ProfAcc, DBA in a seminar at UB TV Studio, Brawijaya University, on Monday (09/Apr/2018).

Rut also delivered that condition of Indonesia still has many social challenges to solve such as severe poverty and lack of public access for health care or education.

Indonesia has percentage of poverty level namely 10.12% in January 2016. We can overcome this such as by social entrepreneur," she explained.

Through socio entrepreneurship, the Administrative Science lecturer added will able to can create jobs, creating good innovation and services for society, improving equality in society and poverty alleviation.

"The purpose of social entrepreneur is not looking for material profit or customer satisfaction, but innovating through innovative ideas that can provide significant profit to communities," she added.

In addition to Rut, attended also dr. Gamal Albinsaid, a Medical Faculty alumni who is successful in this area. Gamal introduced the innovation he pioneered namely garbage assurance clinic. It is a social business at which poor communities can acquire health services by exchanging garbage.

"This effort is not separated from two problems of our surroundings namely garbage and community health," Gamal added.

"Be honest to yourself, follow your passion to help surroundings, and surely people around will know and like your existence. Social entrepreneurship can create harmony which later developed by creating social motivation," he said.

In addition, Gamal also shared his story in establishing a start-up business on health services, namely Indonesia Medika and Homedika. He confessed that both of his businesses were born of his empathy when he see health problems in Indonesia.
