During 2018, Brawijaya University has gone through a journey that is not easy and winding, dealing with vary challenges of different academic and non-academic aspects, until struggling to continuous standing parallel with top universities which are one step ahead. Brawijaya University's journey towards World Class Entrepreneurial University (WCEU) still feels far away, considering our beloved blue campus is still struggling at the national level. Not to mention internal human resource that has to be developed both in quality and quantity. Definitely, to reflect many Brawijaya University tasks that should be accomplished. But that does not mean Brawijaya University is not stepping. Closing the end of 2018, Brawijaya University has many huge achievements. Prof. Dr. Ir. Nuhfil Hanani AR, M.S as the Rector has prepared vary programs to open a new page in 2019.

Prof. Nuhfil delivered if currently Brawijaya University is dealing with three big challenges to be confronted immediately in 2019. The first is chasing the WCEU target with focus in international rankings. The second is declaration of Brawijaya University as an autonomous university or commonly known as State University with Legal Status. While the third is aspects to support transitional period from BLU (Badan Layanan Umum/Public Service Agency) to PTNBH (Perguruan Tinggi Negeri Berbadan Hukum/Autonomous State University) should be realized immediately. "Transitional period usually takes around four years, however we try to accelerate to two years. Therefore, the key is in 2019," he said.

Many efforts should be taken to deal with the three challenges. All parties must work together from university until faculty level and supporting units within the campus. Because this is not a program on behalf of the Rector but the university's program thoroughly. Not only achievements of students, lecturers or faculties, but accreditation is important consideration in national competition. "In 2018 we are successful to maintain institutions' accreditation A, then it's not excessive if later in 2019 Brawijaya University aspires in chasing international institution's accreditation, including accreditation of each study program," he added.

In areas of education and research, Brawijaya University is going to pursue international publication through increasing professors. It becomes the main component since Brawijaya University is still lagging behind in field of human resources. Title and position are main indicators to see, therefore, at least lecturers at Brawijaya University already held a doctorate evenly. "Certainly our target is not only in professor acceleration, but in the future, we will also provide opportunities for lecturers and administration staffs for further study," he ended.

While in community services, Brawijaya University has launched Serving Doctoral Program and Serving University Program at broader level. Serving university program is one of its steps to prepare Autonomous state university. Later, the program is not only limited to merely product downstreaming but also on how the product can be functioned and commercialized. As in movement towards autonomous state university, Brawijaya University is not only required to have commercial business units, but also flagship products that can be distributed to different layers of society and stakeholders.
