Shell Eco-Marathon is a global competition held by one of the giant fuel businesses, Shell. The program challenges students from around the world to design, build, and drive their own energy-efficient vehicles. This year more than 120 student teams from 18 Asia Pacific countries competed in the competition which is the highlight of Make Future Singapore – a four-day public festival of ideas and innovation for Asia.

This event includes two competitions. In the traditional mileage challenge teams compete to design vehicles with the furthest distance with the smallest amount of fuel. While on the mileage challenges there are two categories to choose: Prototype and UrbanConcept.

Prototype teams feature futuristic and highly-aerodynamic vehicles, while UrbanConcept showcases economical and innovative vehicles that resemble regular cars on the road.

The teams compete based on their selected energy source; Internal Combustion Engine (Gasoline, diesel, ethanol/biofuel), Battery-electric power, or Hydrogen fuel cell. (mic)
