Around 50 academicians and laboratory staffs from various universities or institutions came to join in a workshop on Basic Fluorescence and Sample Preparation held by Central Laboratory of Life Sciences (Laboratorium Sentral Ilmu Hayati/LSIH) (23-24/02/2017) in LSIH building's third floor. The event was held due to the lack of knowledge on staining method using fluorescence materials for bacteria sample by Indonesian laboratory staffs.

LSIH Director Prof. Ir. Yenny Risjani, DEA, PhD mentioned that methods on using fluorescence materials in bacteria for other countries is not a new matter while in Indonesia not many know due the existing laboratory infrastructures are less modern and complete compare with other countries.

Vice Rector IV on Planning and Partnership Affairs Dr. Ir. Moch. Sasmito Djati, MS also mentioned that despite recent technique and instruments are already sophisticated but the people behind the machine are very influential on the results of the research.

"By the workshop, I hope the participants can improve their skills on staining using fluorescence since any sophisticated the instruments is the man behind the instrument is not serious and competent the research results will be in vain," said Dr. Sasmito Djati,

Staining methods using fluorescence in bacteria according to laboratory staffs in Bio Imaging KJF Nano Molecular and Cellular Biology at LSIH Choirul Chotimah, M.Si evidently gives many benefits compared to conventional technics. For example in fluorescence technique can be obtained larger and more valid data rather than usual techniques and could bring up the colour either red or green depending the additives that are added while in conventional techniques is merely black and white.

A workshop in collaboration with PT. Fajarmas Murni is a series of routine agenda conducted by LSIH to improve qualities of laboratory staffs either in institutions or universities in maximizing research results to be accomplished. [dimas/Humas UB/trans. Denok]
