International Relations Department Commemorate Diversity in ASEAN Conference

In the framework to celebrate the 50th ASEAN anniversary, International Relations Department, Faculty of Social and Political Science held an international conference. The event themed "ASEAN Golden Anniversary: Embracing ASEAN Community, Harmonizing Diversity" was held on Tuesday-Wednesday (22-23/Aug/2017) at Widyaloka building, Brawijaya University.

"In the conference, there were 50 abstracts that have been accepted, from themes of politics, economy and social politic until digital culture of youth. In addition to the event, last week there was also a workshop on leadership for ASEAN youths. The event also followed by delegates of Egypt and so on," said Yusli Effendi, S.IP., MA, as Head of Convener.

ASEAN is well known as an elite organization. The conference intended to introduce ASEAN as a people-centered organization," he said. In the conference, Yusli mentioned that all researchers from ASEAN countries, will have information exchange to accomplish various existed problems. One of them is in diversity issues. Diversity will become the current communities' matters, yet actually it is an advantage owned by ASEAN.

Attended as speakers, Chilman Arisman as Permission Mission of RI to ASEAN, Linda Quayle from The University of Nottingham Malaysia, Ekraj Imron Sabur as Director of International Peace and Development Studies Bangkok, a researcher at Yusof Ishak Institute Singapore, Eva Wisanti and Aswin Ariyanto Aziz as a lecturer at Faculty of Social and Political Science of Brawijaya University.
