Hold Community Services, UB Students Give Food Products Training in Trenggalek and Tulungagung

Training process along with communities
As many as 10 students from Faculty of Agricultural Technology and Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences of Brawijaya University, who previously assisted to train KRTP in Faculty of Agricultural Technology pilot plan, held an agenda on food product training to the communities in Tulungagung and Trenggalek Regency. The event was aimed as community services agenda to the group of disadvantaged communities, particularly into KRTP (Kepala Rumah Tangga Perempuan/female household heads) as targets on feminization of poverty alleviation in East Java Jalin Matra Program.

"The training is in order to improve KRTP business capacity with target in East Java feminization of poverty alleviation program and also implementation of Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi of Brawijaya University," said Nur Rois Ahmad, alumni of Master Program on Poverty Assessment from Faculty of Social and Political Sciences who led the training agenda.

Training agenda was conducted in form of technical guidance on various processed foods in Srikaton Village and Gedangsewu Village in Tulungagung Regency, and also Petung Village and Salamrejo Village in Trenggalek Regency. In two days, as many as 60 participants obtained training on food processed products like sweet potato brownies, purple sweet potato cookies, corn tortilla, catfish meatballs and catfish nugget.

"I am enthusiast to invite participants into this very productive event. Such training is very good to train reliance and creativity of female household heads in using their surrounding potency," said a participant, Silvi.

According to Rois, technical guidance model and choices of training products were deliberately adjusted into local participants and environment. It was also aimed to motivate the idea of entrepreneurship for participants. For instance, they will be able to take advantage of surrounding materials and also creative in their respective skills.

"Hopefully, later on, initiatives on seeking opportunities in obtaining income by entrepreneurship may arise from ideas of participants themselves," said Rois.

Feminization of poverty alleviation is a community empowerment initiated by Governor of East Java. Its main agenda is giving capital assistance which aimed to expand KRTP access to be able to initiate and run productive business for family economy/income increasing.

Brawijaya University itself was believed to be an accompaniment team for PFK Jalin Mitra. As an implementation of community services, particularly poor people, the training agenda that organized in the field to be a continuation of similar training agendas which previously conducted several times at pilot plant laboratory of Faculty of Agricultural Technology of Brawijaya University.
