Minister of Agriculture Dr. Ir. Andi Amran Sulaiman, MPIn order to close the second semester term in academic year of 2017/2018, Faculty of Agriculture held a guest lecture in a theme "Building an Independent and Sustainable Agriculture in Industrial 4.0 Era". The event was attended by the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia Dr. Ir. Andi Amran Sulaiman, MP on Friday (25/May/2018) at Widyaloka building Brawijaya University.
In his remarks as well as the event's opening by Rector of Brawijaya University Prof. Dr. Ir. M. Bisri, MS delivered that currently we are entering industrial revolution era which commonly known as The Fourth Industrial Revolution Era (Industrial 4.0 Era), thus should be responded with a human resources development to follow it. According to him, Brawijaya University is a big campus to realize it. "Several existing research studies become parameters that Brawijaya University is seriously to improve research effort for this industrial 4.0 era," he said.
"In terms of agriculture, Brawijaya University has developed some research and development centre by providing open land and some research laboratories such as torang, UB Forest as Agroforestry, and so on. Not only agriculture, gradually at other faculties we also develop laboratories and other infrastructures," Bisri said.
Meanwhile in his presentation, Minister of Agriculture delivered that recently Indonesia occupies 16th place in the field of agriculture, it is on top of the United States of America and China. The presence of youth is also large potentially developing agriculture sector in Indonesia. Such as by establishment of Gerakan Pemuda Tani Indonesia which was successfully in managing agriculture land with promising benefits.
The Minister of Agriculture also encouraged agricultural researchers to be more active for having research and innovation, thus the government can advance its national agriculture, as well as improving farmers' prosperity.
"The entire can be reached with the modernization of agriculture, cost savings up to 30 percent and increased production of dry milled grain up to 8.6 million ton, increasinv rice production up to 26 million tons and boosting revenue up to 191 trillion rupiahs annually," he said.
On the other occasion, the Minister of Agriculture also appreciated a research conducted by a lecturer at Faculty of Agriculture, namely a purple corn or Brawijaya Purple Sweet F1 Hybrid which is found and researched by Ir. Arifin Noor, M.Sc., PhD who is a lecturer at Agricultural Cultivation Department. The purple corn contains higher anthocyanin so as it is useful for smooth blood, its taste is more delicious instead of the existing corn.
In addition to corn, there is also liquid fertilizer Bactorizho-4 researched by a lecturer at Plant Pest and Disease Department Luqman Qurata, SP., MP., PhD. The liquid fertilizer which is useful as plant growth promoter was began to be conducted at implementation of Upsus (Upaya Khusus/Special Effort) of Pajale 2016, and it is proven to be able to increase yield up to 30%.
Not only a guest lecture, Minister of Agriculture also visited an exhibition of Agricultural Product and Technology, some research products conducted by research centers or individuals were performed. In addition, there were also ATP (Agriculture Techno Park) products, vary departments at Faculty of Agriculture, students' works in PKM (Students' Creativity Program) and PWMP (Penumbuhan Wirausahawan Muda Pertanian/Growth of Young Agricultural Entrepreneurs).
