Darmasiswa Program is a program launched by the government of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) under the management of the Ministry of Education and Culture's Bureau of Planning and Foreign Cooperation with the aim to introduce Indonesian culture, language and art to other countries. The Indonesian government provides scholarships to young people from foreign countries (who have diplomatic relations with Indonesia) to study Indonesian culture, language, and art in several universities in Indonesia, from Sabang to Merauke.

This year was the second year for Faculty of Cultural Studies (FCS) Universitas Brawijaya (UB) held a Darmasiswa RI Program. In the first year (academic year 2017/2018), UB received 11 students from India, South Korea, Madagascar, Thailand, Ukraine, Tajikistan, Timor Leste, and Sudan.

For this second year (academic year 2018/2019), UB accepted 12 participants, but 5 of them could not join the program due to immigration problems and other technical constraints.

All of the 7 Darmasiswa RI Program students of academic year 2018/2019 in UB, namely Raj Nandita from India, Solohery Mampionona Aime Randrian from Madagascar, Maria Galkina from Russia, Byungju Shim from South Korea, Emmanuel Michael Massay from Tanzania, Ho Anh Nguyet and Tran Huu Nguyet Cam from Vietnam, all have followed the learning process well.

A year ago, the students who could not speak Indonesian at the beginning, currently not only can communicate in Indonesian only, but also can understand Indonesian culture and enjoy Indonesian cuisine. Some of these students even won achievements in several competitions, both locally, regionally and nationally.

By learning to draw batik and make drawings about Indonesian art, then visit the museum, learn Indonesian art through Javanese gamelan," said Rizki Nufiarni, M.A., as the Chief Executive of the Darmasiswa RI Program FCS UB.

"We also provide insight into multiculturalism in Indonesia through interaction with Ngabab Village residents for 3 days. In that 3-day program, students get experiences living with foster families who they consider to be their parents in Indonesia," she continued.

"We hope that the programs that we have run for two years can be even better in the following year, considering that the interest to join this program in UB for this year is increasing," she concluded.

Based on the selection that was held in March and April 2019, for the academic year 2019/2020, UB will get 16 Darmasiswa RI Program students.
