BAPPEDA (Badan Perencanaan Pembangunan Daerah/Regional Planning Development Agency) of East Java Province in collaboration with Brawijaya University organized a Focused Group Discussion on Inventory of Economic Development Problems (Campus Road Show) on Tuesday (09/Oct/2018).

The event centralized in 8th floor of Rectorate Building was attended by dozens of academicians at Brawijaya University. The speakers were Vice Rector IV on Planning and Partnership Affairs Dr. Ir. Moch. Sasmito Djati, MS; Dean of Faculty of Economics and Business Nurkholis SE, M.Buss (ACC)., Ak., PhD; Dean of Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science Prof. Dr. Happy Nursyam, MS and Staff of Vice Dean I on Academic Affairs Faculty of Agriculture Dr. Sujarwo SP, MP, MS.

Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Nuhfil Hanani AR., MS said he was happy to welcome the discussion. He expected the university can take roles which is going to assist problem solving in East Java," said Prof. Nuhfil.

While Head of Economics Affairs Ir. Arief Tri Hardjoko, MT delivered the purpose to organize the discussion is to inventory vary economic development problems and alternative policy recommendations from academicians as a draft of Mid-Term Regional Development Planning 2019-2024 in East Java.

In following up the selection of East Java Governor and Vice Governor in 29 June 2018, then the mid-term Regional Development planning should has been set. So, a comprehensive and solutive planning document is compiled to overcome all problems in East Java in accordance with regional, national and global growth demand. Therefore, we need to compile inputs from vary entities, including academicians," he said.

Furthermore, Arief mentioned that economic development in East Java has indicated pretty good recults. It is proven by economic improvement in various areas such as performance of exports, imports and investments in 2018 compared with the past year. However, development should remained to be optimized since poverty and unemployment are still exist and the solutions must continue.

"Development should be optimized through integration and synergy of numerous sectors including agriculture, industry, commerce, investment, cooperative, SMEs and tourism," he added.

In line with that, Vice Rector IV on Collaboration Affairs Dr. Ir. Sasmito Djati explained some efforts to optimize sectors of agriculture, industry, commerce, investment, SMEs, cooperative and tourism in 4.0 industrial revolution era such as via "Making Indonesia 4.0" initiated by Ministry of Industrial Affairs.

"There are several sectors selected as the main focus in "Making Indonesia 4.0" i.e. food and beverages, textiles and clothing, automotive, chemistry, and electronics. Action steps that can be taken are providing technological incentives, organizing roadshow to leading Global Manufacture, vocational education improvement, establishment innovation centre for 4.0 technology, show case, experiment to increase productivity, supports for Small and Medium Enterprises like E-commerce and technological funding for them," said Sasmito.
