Field Research on the Osing Language by Magister of Linguistics FCS UB
Education is important because it is closely related to the future, as well as an effort in self-development. Workshops, study tours or field research were carried out by every educational institution, especially in Indonesia. An example of educational activities was the field research which was organized by the Magister of Linguistics Study Program FCS UB in Baluk, Kebalenan, Banyuwangi, East Java.
The number of participants in this field practicum were 17 odd-semester students of the Magister of Linguistics Study Program FCS UB, accompanied by 2 seniors.
This activity took 100 words in Swadesh vocabulary and Morphosyntaxis data retrieval as many as 38 sentences which in the whole were translated in Osing through interviews of 3 Osing tribes. The students were divided into groups and each group received 1 respondent in an interview and then the student wrote down the IPA (International Phonetics Alphabet).
This activity produced a positive contribution of knowledge, where students learned from research on phonological studies and structured seriousness. From this activity, students were expected to be able to add insight, information, knowledge, practice to improve literature and language, carry out theories in class with field practicum, strengthen the love of the country, know the treasures of the archipelago widely, and be able to produce good writings in the future.
