A lecturer at Faculty of Administrative Science of Brawijaya University, Andriani Kusumawati, S.Sos., M.Si., DBA joined in an International Conference on Social Media Marketing (ICSMM'17). The event conducted at University of Twente Enschede, The Netherlands on Monday-Tuesday (21-22/Aug/2017).

The conference is the first worldwide which specialize in the area of social media marketing. The event gathered academicians and practitioners in disseminating research results in usage of various social media platforms for global marketing activities.

Raised a theme "It's About Identifying Essence of Engagement", the conference attended by social media academicians and practitioners worldwide particularly from European countries such as Germany, Greece, Poland, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Turkey, the Netherlands itself and United States of America. In addition, there were also Aian countries like Taiwan, Korea, Ghana, Nigeria, India, Pakistan, Malaysia and Indonesia as well as Middle East countries such as Palestine and Israel.

In the international conference, Andriani presented a paper titled "Social Media Impact on Students' Choice of University". "The initial thinking of this research was utilization of internet technology which is increasingly extraordinary by young generations particularly utilization of social media as information source for their decision making. The similar things also happened when the decision taken related with the choice of a university, particulalarly in Indonesia," she explained.

She also explained that in these matters, higher education institutions need to understand information sources used by prospective students for communicating and influencing their decision effectively and efficiently. "By the research, hopefully will assist Indonesian universities to improve their knowledge on relevant marketing strategy to use in student recruitment," she ended. [andriani/Vicky/Humas UB/trans.
