Universitas Brawijaya (UB) became a host in Indonesian-China Comprehensive Strategy Partnership Implementation of Focus Group Discussion (FGD). This activity was held by Ministry of Foreign Affairs cooperated with The Embassy of China to Indonesia on Thursday (25/9) in Rectorate Meeting Room, Universitas Brawijaya.

The meeting discussed the cooperation between Indonesian and China in various fields. The Rector of UB who was represented by the head of International Office, Prof. Dr. Ir. Ifar Subagyo, M.Agr.St, welcomed this activity. "China is one of the world powers in economics and politics, many cooperation between Indonesia and China in the field of economics, tourism and education," he said.

This event was attended by Dr. Xu Liping, a reseacher from NISS-CASS, Beijing. Soegeng Raharjo as Indonesian Ambassador for Beijing, the Dean and Chief of program in the environment, a representative of Public Community Institution, a representative of Malang Municipal Government and student representatives. According to Soegeng, cooperation with China in education can be strengthened. "Scholarships in China have not taken the interest of Indonesian students. It is proved from 13 thousand students who study in China only about 20 percent or about 2600 students who utilize the scholarship from the government," he said. According to Soegeng, it is because Indonesian students are still oriented to the western world such as Australia and America. "Though education in China is not inferior to the west. Even today China has become the market leader in the world, nearly beating the United States and perhaps the next 10 years our international language is Mandarin," said Soegeng.
