FCS-UB Held an International Conference on Japanese Studies (ICJS) attended by 5 Countries

In 2017, Faculty of Cultural Studies Universitas Brawijaya (FCS-UB) hosted the annual event, International Conference on Japanese Studies (ICJS). ICJS is a regular activity of the Association of Japanese Language Education Studies Indonesia (AJLESI) in cooperation with Japan Foundation Jakarta. While the organizer is each university that has willing to host.

This activity is held considering the number of Japanese language learners in Indonesia is the second most after China. So, Japanese language education in Indonesia is well developed and it is necessary to discuss Japanese research, in terms of language, education, culture, or anything related to Japan.

ICJS was held for 2 days, those were on Friday, August 25, 2017 started from 08.30 a.m. up to 16.00 p.m. and on Saturday, August 26, 2017 started from 08:00 a.m. up to 12:00 p.m. It was located in Building A of FCS-UB.

ICJS theme this time was ICT (Information Communication Technology) Based Japanese Language Learning. The event was attended by universities both from local and abroad. There were 5 keynote speakers from 5 host countries, those were Dr. Tomohisa Yamada from Hokkaido University (Japan), Dr. H. Agus S. Suryadimulya, M.A. from Universitas Padjajaran (Indonesia), Dr. Zaid Bin Mohd Zin from Universiti Putra Malaysia (Malaysia), Malaykham Sayakone, Ph.D. from National University of Laos (Laos), Tasanee Metaphisit, M.A. from Thammasat University (Thailand). In addition there were also speakers from several universities in Japan, such as from Nagasaki University, Tokyo University Foreign Language, Rikkyo University, and Nagoya University. There were about 18 universities all over Indonesia who also present as speakers, as well as participants. So on the ICJS there were totally 5 keynote speakers, 60 speakers, and 120 participants.

"Future expectations from this implementation of this conference, hopefully it will be remain connected to other seminar activities. Because next year is planned to be held at the University of Computer Indonesia, Bandung. Next year, there will also be a worldwide international conference, which last year was held in Bali. I am also a presenter there with 1000 participants. Next year It will be held in Venice, Italy and I will be there" said Ismatul Khasanah, M .Ed., Ph.D, Head of FCS-UB Department, as the chairman of ICJS 2017. [DT/MSH/PSIK FIB]
