Electrical Engineering Towards ABET International Accreditation

Following the Water Resources Engineering that has been accredited international AUN-QA in January 2017, this time Electrical Engineering (TE) Faculty of Engineering Universitas Brawijaya (FT-UB) prepares to go for ABET international accreditation. TE-UB held Focus Group Discussion (FGD) in preparation of action plan towards ABET International Accreditation, Saturday, November 12, 2017.

ABET, incorporated as the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc., is a non-governmental organization that accredits post-secondary education programs in applied science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology. ABET is also an outcome based international accreditation of the USA and included in the Washington Accord.

"Currently, Undergraduates and Master Program of Electrical Engineering Department have been accredited A (based on BAN-PT), in the framework of WCU (World Class University) program in 2017, it is time for us to prepare International Accreditation," said Head of UB TE Department Muhammad Aziz Muslim, ST ., MT., Ph.D.

Also present at the occasion were Secretary of TE UB Hadi Suyono ST MT PhD, Head of Undergraduates Program of Electrical Engineering Ali Mustofa ST MT, Head of Master Program DrEng Panca Mudjirahardjo ST MT, Head of Functional Position Group of each concentration at TE UB , Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) UB Student Branch Counselor, UJM Team, and student representatives of TE-UB.

During the FGD that afternoon, several topics were discussed; administrative readiness of Electrical Engineering Department, the preparation of International Accreditation Assessment Parameter, Existing Condition of TEUB, and Strategic Plan towards international accreditation

Aziz PhD added that the purpose of this event is to prepare an action plan towards ABET International Accreditation by self-identification which include administrative readiness, infrastructure, and available resources.

The preparation of human resources (stakeholders) includes students, lecturers, and administrative staff. Students are expected to improve their international activities and institutions, one of which is affiliated with IEEE UB-Student Branch. Lecturers are through lecturing control, rubric assessment, and learning to measure competence. Administrative staff enhanced hard skill and soft skill skills.

Currently, TE-UB is preparing the process of curriculum development, implementation of learning, assessment of learning outcomes, curricular program integration, co-curricular, extra-curricular as well as by changing culture and mindset.

Aziz PhD also hopes that the Electrical Engineering Study Program can be well prepared for international accreditation so that it will be able to compete globally in research and academic field and in order to support Universitas Brawijaya program as World Class University.

"Hopefully the preparation of Blue print and Towards International Accreditation 2020 timeline is running smoothly and can be prepared as well as possible," he concluded. (mic/Humas UB)
