Laboratory of International Relations Study Program (Prodi HI) Faculty of Social Sciences and Political Sciences (FISIP) Universitas Brawijaya (UB) on Tuesday (4/6) held a Guest Lecture with a theme of "Democratization and Regime Change". The guest lecture was cooperation with Wyoming University United States of America. The guest lecture is given by Dr. Andrew Garner, Ph.D.
The event was opened by the Dean of FISIP UB, Prof. DR. H. Darsono Wisadirana, M.S. Darsono convey his huge appreciation to the Laboratory of HI Program who has built cooperation with Wyoming University, who previously has cooperate with Government Science Study Program.
"For the future, FISIP UB aims to have a vision to become international level faculty. This event surely support the vision and make it more reachable by the nine year old faculty," he said.
The guest lecture is guided by Aswin Ariyanto Azis, S.IP., M.DevSt as the moderator, who is also a lecturer of HI and Head of Government Science Study Program. Before presenting the material, Andrew started by greeting and asking how the participants' doing in Indonesian language, showing his respect on the nation.
Referring to the theme, Andrew systematically explained the process of democratization and its relation to regime change. He gave example of reformation 1998 in Indonesia as one of the form of regime changes in the world. Modernization theory is used by Andrew as an analytical knife to get into the phenomena of regime change and democratization process. Besides, culture and actor also act as indicator in regime change in a country. [dzp/rian/translated by yasmeen]
